I was inspired to write this while getting my first Covid-19 vaccine. I handed this poem out to the people who were working the vaccine center. I thought it was cool that these are the people who manage rock-n-roll events, they were hired because they are good with crowds. I still find it amazing that 14 months after the pandemic started I was able to get some protection.
As I stand on my dot and wait in the long queue, I reflect on a mixture of emotions I have waited for this moment, since last year’s Spring of woe The SPACE between US is feeling so cold
As the needle plunges into my skin I am thankful for the elegant science that awakens my immune system I look forward to those crowed city sidewalks where I can people watch - that one is a spy, these two are in love, that girl is wearing her pajamas; when did that become normal? The SPACE between US is so old
It’s not over but it’s the start of it being over and I feel that I am doing my part I want us to shed our masks, so we can see each other smile but we need some more time I know that things will not go back to normal right away, there is a space of trust between us The SPACE between US must fold
While I score the last ripe avocado, I will patiently dance with you in the supermarket, as we try to keep our distance Take the plunge, so we can see each other in the crowd, hug, share smiles and think nothing of it The SPACE between US shall close
The space between us is feeling so cold The space between us is so old The space between us must fold Take the PLUNGE, the SPACE between US shall close
